Crossroads Community Band to perform ‘Salute to Veterans’ on Nov. 11
The Crossroads Community Band will perform a Veterans Day concert at the Victoria Fine Arts Center on Nov. 11.

The Crossroads Community Band will perform a Veterans Day “Salute to Veterans” concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11 at the Victoria Fine Arts Center.

Admission to the event is free.

“We have a record 90 members in the band,” said conductor Ken Peach. “On average, we have 45 to 50 of them performing concerts. It’s a community group, so members switch in and out per their schedules and other community events.”

The band will perform:

·  “United States National Anthem”

·  “Strategic Air Command March”

·  “America: The Spirit Lives On!”

·  “Journal for a Soldier,” by Brian Balmages

·  “Armed Forces Salute,” by Bob Lowden 

·  “Harlem Nocturne,” arranged by Paul Murtha (alto saxophone solo by Jonathan Anderson)

·  “At A Dixieland Jazz Funeral,” arranged by Jared Spears

·  “In The Mood”

·  “Jumpin’ at the Woodside”

·  “Salute to American Jazz,” arranged by Sammy Nestico


·  “The Stars and Stripes Forever”

The Crossroads Community Band is affiliated with Victoria College and VC students may perform in the band for VC music ensemble credit. This semester, there are 15 Victoria College students receiving credit for their participation in the band.

Founded in 2009, the Crossroads Community Band consists of instrumentalists from all walks of life including retirees, teachers, doctors, librarians, engineers, school band directors, computer specialists, business people, students and musicians. Instruments played include tubas, trombones, trumpets, oboes, bassoons, clarinets, euphoniums, French horns, flutes, saxophones and percussion.

The Victoria Fine Arts Center is located at 1002 Sam Houston Drive.
