Artist to demonstrate work, speak at VC
Ceramic artist Susan Budge will make a presentation at Victoria College on Nov. 15.

Ceramic artist Susan Budge will provide a demonstration and lecture about her work and the business of being an independent artist at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15 in Studio Room 113 of Victoria College’s Fine Arts Building.

Budge, a native of Midland, earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Texas Tech University in 1983 and, after receiving her Master of Arts degree, began teaching art at San Jacinto College in Houston. She accepted a position at San Antonio College in 1995 to head the school’s ceramics program. After earning tenure, Budge completed her Master of Fine Arts at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

“Touching clay for the first time was my epiphany,” Budge says on her website. “The physical, sensual, direct qualities of this material have challenged me for the past 33 years. While the majority of my work has been abstract, there have been periods interspersed with figurative and narrative series. When my life was in trauma and turmoil, my work served as catharsis. When my emotional life is stable, my work has no need for imagery or text.”

Budge has had 31 exhibitions throughout the United States and her work is located in private collections in Saudi Arabia, Greece, United Kingdom, Australia and Mexico.

The free event will be hosted by Victoria College’s Dirt Nerds Ceramics Club and is open to the public.

VC’s Fine Arts Building faces Red River Street between the main entrance and entrance 6.
