VC students, Victoria Civic Chorus to perform Christmas concert
Star of Birth
The Victoria Civic Chorus will be part of the Star of Birth Christmas choral concert on Dec. 2 at Our Saviourís Lutheran Church.

The Victoria Civic Chorus, Victoria College Choir and Victoria College Choralers will present a Star of Birth Christmas choral concert on Friday, Dec. 2 at 7:30 p.m. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church located at 4102 N. Ben Jordan in Victoria.

The cost for the event will be $5. Tickets may be purchased at the door or from any Victoria Civic Chorus member.

The groups will perform “Stella Natalis” by Welsh composer Karl Jenkins, accompanied by trumpet, strings, percussion and organ. Soloists for “Stella Natalis” will be Ron Ledbetter on trumpet and sopranos Eugenie Fuhrman and Beth Waak.

“Stella Natalis is an exciting work in 12 movements with beautiful melodies followed by movements that are rhythmically challenging,” said Victoria College music professor Dr. Marylynn Fletcher, who will conduct the concert. “The virtuosic trumpet part makes some movements seem like a trumpet concerto accompanied by the chorus singing vocal percussion. It is a merger of choral singing with African influences.”

Also featured will be two carols by John Rutter. The Victoria College Choir will sing carols composed from as early as the 16th century to “Do You Hear What I Hear?” composed in the 20th century. Traditional carols will include favorites such as “O Come All Ye Faithful,” “Deck the Halls” and “Silent Night.”
