Crossroads Community Band’s holiday concert scheduled for Dec. 14
The Crossroads Community Band will perform songs from “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” at its holiday concert on Dec. 14.

The Crossroads Community Band will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Dr. Seuss’ “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” in a free concert at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at the Victoria Fine Arts Center located at 1002 Sam Houston Drive in Victoria.

The event is free and open to the public.

“This will be a very fun event for all ages,” said VC Professor of Music and Fine Arts Department Chair Jonathan Anderson. “This performance will also include narration and promises to be a very entertaining and enjoyable experience.”

The band will perform:

  • “The Glory of Christmas (Fantasia on Greensleeves),” arranged by Elliot Del Borgo
  • “O Holy Night,” by Aldolphe Charles Adam; arranged by Calvin Custer
  • “A Canadian Brass Christmas Suite,” arranged by Calvin Custer
  • “Sing of Christmas” (audience singalong), arranged by Ralph Hermann
  • “How The Grinch Stole Christmas,” by Albert Hague and Eugene Poddany; arranged by Larry Clark
  • “Fanfare on Adeste Fidelis,” by Jim Colonna
  • “It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” by Edward Pola and George Wylie; arranged by Chris Sharp
  • “Sleigh Ride,” by Leroy Anderson

The Crossroads Community Band is affiliated with Victoria College and VC students may perform in the band for music ensemble credit. This semester, there are 15 Victoria College students receiving credit for their participation in the band.

Founded in 2009, the Crossroads Community Band consists of instrumentalists from all walks of life including retirees, teachers, doctors, librarians, engineers, school band directors, computer specialists, business people, students and musicians. Instruments played include tubas, trombones, trumpets, oboes, bassoons, clarinets, euphoniums, French horns, flutes, saxophones and percussion.

The band, which also features experienced musicians from across the area, will perform all the musical themes from the 1957 classic children’s story that was adapted as an animated TV movie in 1966.
