Over 300 high school and middle school students attended a Genetics Update Conference with Dr. Sam Rhine on Jan. 27 at Victoria College’s Emerging Technology Complex.

Rhine, a graduate of Harvard Medical School, informed biology teachers and students about the latest genetic advances during the four-hour conference.

“This was the second year my daughter has attended and the first for my son, who begged me to take him Friday morning,” said Victoria College Biology Professor Dr. Margaret Janowski-Bell. “I take them because I consider Dr. Rhine one of the best teachers in the country. The genetic conferences are an unparalleled educational opportunity, and I know by the afternoon my children will be able to understand the significance of the most recent groundbreaking discoveries in genetics and medicine.”

“He made everything so easy to understand,” said Janowski-Bell’s 11-year-old son, Alexander, who is a sixth-grader at Cade Middle School. “I loved it. I’m coming back next year.”
