Crossroads Community Band to perform ‘In-Between the Overtures’ on Feb. 21

The Crossroads Community Band features musicians from Victoria College and across the area.

The Crossroads Community Band will perform “In-Between the Overtures” at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at the Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts.

The event is free and open to the public.

Musical selections will include “American Overture for Band” by Joseph Jenkins, “Bombasto March” by O.R. Farrar, “Dusk” by Steven Bryant, “Laredo” by Clifton Williams, “Light Cavalry Overture” arranged by Henry Fillmore, “Overture to Candide” by Leonard Bernstein, “Procession of the Nobles” by Nicholas Rimsky-Korsakov and “Sundance” by Carl Strommen.

“We are fortunate to have such great conductors and musicians in the Victoria area,” said Kenneth Peach, Crossroads Community Band director and director of fine arts for Victoria Independent School District. “Each guest conductor has selected the music for the performance and has rehearsed with the band for this special event.”

Guest conductors will be Victoria College’s Jonathan Anderson; Victoria East High School’s David Edge and Carlos Gonzalez; Victoria West High School’s Joshua Partida, Sandra Laskowski and Nick Stange; and Patti Welder Middle School’s Debbie Colley.

The Crossroads Community Band is affiliated with Victoria College and VC students may perform in the band for music ensemble credit. This semester, there are 10 Victoria College students receiving credit for their participation in the band.

Founded in 2009, the Crossroads Community Band consists of instrumentalists from all walks of life including retirees, teachers, doctors, librarians, engineers, school band directors, computer specialists, business people, students and musicians. Instruments played include tubas, trombones, trumpets, oboes, bassoons, clarinets, euphoniums, French horns, flutes, saxophones and percussion.

The Leo J. Welder Center is located at 214 N. Main Street in Victoria.
