VC, UHV students, employees to present seventh annual VDAY program

Victoria College and the University of Houston-Victoria will present “VDAY 2017: A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer” at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24 and Saturday, Feb. 25 at VC’s Johnson Symposium.

VC and UHV students and employees can attend the event for $5. General admission will be $10. Proceeds will benefit Hope of South Texas.

VDAY is a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls. Victoria College’s seventh annual VDAY production will include a collection of monologues by world-renowned authors and playwrights edited by Eve Ensler and Mollie Doyle.

“Like all VDAY productions, ‘A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer’ shares real stories from women and men who have experienced violence in their lives,” said Lisa DeVries, VC English professor and VDAY organizer.

This is the first year for UHV to assist VC with the event.

“Since our first 2011 VDAY production, we’ve had VC and UHV folks participating and performing together,” DeVries said. “It feels good to finally make it official.”

The Johnson Symposium is located on VC’s Main Campus at 2200 E. Red River Street.
