Victoria College designated Mother-Friendly Worksite
Mother Friendly

Victoria College was recently designated a Mother-Friendly Worksite by the Texas State Department of Health Services.

“It is a great achievement to reach the Mother Friendly guidelines,” said Texas AHEC East-Victoria Region Program Coordinator Paula Crawford, who worked with VC Human Resources Executive Director Terri Kurtz for about a year to ensure VC complies with the guidelines. “We should all be helping and supporting breastfeeding mothers.”

According to TexasMotherFriendly.org, breastfeeding employees miss work less often and breast-fed infants are healthier, which results in lower healthcare costs.

Victoria College has complied with the provisions of Chapter 165 of the Texas Health and Safety Code to receive the designation.

Mother-Friendly Worksites must provide:

·         work schedule flexibility to allow adequate time for the expression of breastmilk;

·         access to a clean, safe water source and a sink to wash hands and clean pumping equipment; and

·         access to hygienic options for storage or expressed breastmilk.

There are currently 2,464 Mother-Friendly Worksites in Texas, including seven in Victoria.
