Registration is underway for Victoria College’s two HeartSaver First Aid, CPR and AED courses to be held on March 25 and May 27.

The courses, which will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., will include lectures, discussion and skills practice following the current American Heart Association guidelines for HeartSaver CPR, cardiac arrest recognition, cardiac compressions, first aid and use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).

“This course is for non-healthcare providers and is ideal for teachers, youth sports coaches, foster parents, daycare workers, baby sitters, volunteer responders as well as industrial and construction safety personnel,” said Ricky De La Garza, VC’s emergency medical services continuing education coordinator who has been a licensed paramedic for 35 years. “In fact, this course is for just about anybody who wishes to be prepared to render first aid or potential life-saving emergency care at the workplace, at home or anywhere else.”

The course will be held in Room 112 of Victoria College’s Allied Health Building located at 2200 E. Red River Street in Victoria.

The cost for the eight-hour class is $50 and includes the $15 textbook. Pre-registration is required by visiting VictoriaCollege.edu/EMSTraining, calling (361) 582-2412 or emailing HealthCareers@VictoriaCollege.edu.
