Thirty Liberty Academy seniors, including 23 who will graduate from high school with associate degrees already in hand, were honored at the Early College Center banquet on March 30 at Victoria College’s Emerging Technology Complex.

Victoria Independent School District’s Liberty Academy is an alternative high school campus that focuses solely on academics and works with Victoria College to allow students to obtain associate degrees prior to obtaining their high school diplomas.

Jyotirmaya Jain was named class valedictorian, and Sandhya Devi earned class salutatorian honors. Both will be acquiring Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees from VC in May.

“Being here at Liberty Academy has rightly aligned my goals in life and pressed me on a path toward success,” said Jain, who will begin pre-med studies at Texas A&M University at College Station this fall. “I would like to thank all of VISD and VC for making Liberty Academy possible. This is a truly unique and rewarding program. I hope it continues to inspire new students to pursue a college education.”

“Being a part of this program for years with all my peers here tonight, I know it was all worth it,” said Devi, who will start pre-med and business studies at The University of Texas at Austin in the fall. “No matter how stressful these four years of college and high school were, I am proud to have been part of this program.”

VC President Dr. David Hinds and Vice President of Instruction Marjorie Price-Seeger welcomed guests to the event, and VC Math Professor Diana Pagel led the invocation. VISD Superintendent Dr. Robert Jaklich was the ceremony speaker.

Caps, gowns and cords were presented by VC Advising and Counseling Services Director Bobby Cubriel and Pre-College Programs and Recruitment Coordinator Sabrina Romo.

VC Vice President of College Advancement and External Affairs Jennifer Yancey provided the closing remarks.
