Crossroads Strings, VC Jazz Combo to hold concerts

Crossroads residents will have the opportunity to attend two free concerts on Monday, May 1 and Friday, May 5 at the Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts.

On Monday, May 1, Crossroads Strings will perform its second spring concert at 7:30 p.m. under the direction of Don Orser. The free performance is presented by Victoria College and the Victoria Symphony Society. Crossroads Strings is comprised of Victoria College students who are earning college credit toward their music majors as well as musicians from the community.

Victoria College’s Jazz Combo and the Notorious Jazz All-Stars will perform with local high school jazz ensembles in a concert on Friday, May 5. The event will begin at 6 p.m. Jazz ensembles from Victoria East, Victoria West, Calhoun and Cuero high schools are scheduled to perform. The Notorious Jazz All-Stars are comprised of Victoria College alumni, local band directors and professional jazz musicians.

The ensembles will be under the direction of VC Jazz Combo’s Jonathan Anderson, Calhoun’s Doug Hamelwright, Cuero’s Brian Black, Victoria East’s Carlos Gonzalez and Victoria West’s Joshua Partida.

The Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts is located at 214 Main Street in downtown Victoria.
