You asked for more! We'll give you more! Learn physics while engaging in some great science activities revolving around force and motion. Have fun learning Sir Isaac Newton's famous 3 laws of motion and how they apply to....rockets! Using the scientific method as your guide, you will design, build, and launch rockets (and other flying objects) throughout the week. Model rocket building experience is not a requirement.
Digital Photography Grades 5-8
You've got a camera, but want to know how to improve your techniques and produce impressive digital images consistently? This camp will provide instruction on how to shoot the perfect photo using creative composition, use different type of light and take the shot when the moment is right. Students will take photos both indoors and outdoors and return to the classroom for presentation and critique. Participants should bring their own digital camera and cables to this class and should come prepared with the knowledge of how their camera works.
Elementary, My Dear Scientist! Grades 3-5
Make it a summer you won’t forget! Join Kid’s College for an exciting hands-on, minds-on science exploration. Campers will investigate the forces of nature, the physics of sound and electricity, and construct simple machines. Activities will center around erupting volcanoes, singing rods, and lifting your friends off the ground with one finger! Ooooo...Ahhh...Science Camp Grades 5-8
Known as one of the most exciting camps at Kid's College, this camp fills up fast! Back by popular demand, Victoria's own, "Mr. Land, the Science Man," is back on staff for cool hands-on science experiments and demonstrations that are sure to amaze. Kids are encouraged to have fun with physics, create cool chemical reactions, and observe some mighty exciting microbes. They even make their own root beer! And what would summer camp be like without ice cream in a bag?
Parent/Child Clay Camp One adult should accompany each child.
This course provides an introduction to playing in clay. Participants will make a variety of hand-made clay objects from bowls to bells and color them in a variety of ways including food-safe stoneware glazes. One adult should accompany each child. One visit the following week will be needed for glazing. Completed work will be picked up after the glazing. Pottery Boot Camp Junior High and High School Students
Want a good excuse to play in the mud? Introduction to throwing pottery on the wheel and finishing with stoneware glazing techniques resulting in food-safe wares. Have fun, get messy, and learn the functional skill of making food-safe wares and other forms. No skills needed, just bring your sense of humor! Materials will cost approximately $35 per person and will be available the first day of class. Beading for Fun! Grades 3-5
Want to make something unique for yourself or someone special? This is the class for you! Learn basic beading techniques and patterns. Create beautiful necklaces, bracelets, anklets, and earrings using seed beads, Swarovski crystals, fresh water pearls, and turquoise beads. Prior to the first day of class, students must purchase beads and a beading tool kit from Chit-Chat & Jewels located at 806 E. Mesquite Street in Victoria. The cost of these supplies is $30.00. The tool kit contains a zipper pouch, chain-nose pliers, round-nose pliers, wire cutters, tweezers, bead scoop, snips, and bead container.
Guitar Basix I Grades 3-8 and 9-11
Make music with a master....this basic guitar course will teach campers to play their instrument using a guitar tablature. The course will also include some music theory for beginners, including standard music notation, chord diagrams and plucking/strumming techniques. Completion of this course offers the option of continuing on to Guitar Basix II. Included is a student book and enhanced CD which includes 96-chord dictionary and accompaniments. Campers will need to provide their own instrument.
Guitar Basix II Grades 3-8 and 9-11
This intermediate course is for students who have completed Guitar Basix I or who already know how to read guitar tablature or standard music notation and understand basic music theory. This course will help students develop their ability to play the guitar. Various musical styles will be included such as rock, blues, country, and folk. Included is an instructional book as well as a CD which includes accompaniments for songs and exercises. Campers must provide their own instrument.
Champ Camps Basketball Camp Grades 6 - 9 Learn dribbling, passing, shooting technique, defensive fundamentals, guarding the man with the ball, guarding the man without the ball, knowledge of the game and mental game.
Volleyball Camp Grades 6 - 9 Learn forearm pass, overhead passing (setting), serving, attacking and blocking, team offense/defense, scoring and rules.
