Law Enforcement

Victoria College's Police Academy prepares you for a challenging and rewarding career in law enforcement. Law enforcement officers protect the lives and property of the citizens in their jurisdiction and exercise authority in many areas, including:

  • Investigating  burglaries, shootings, or murders
  • Rendering first aid to accident victims
  • Helping fight crime by building relationships with local neighborhoods
  • Responding to calls for service
  • Directing traffic at the scene of a fire or accident

Specialized Police Academy curriculum includes topics essential to the modern police officer. These topics will be covered through extensive classroom lectures and hands-on experiences.

Coursework includes:

  • History of Policing 
  • Ethics 
  • U.S. and Texas Constitution and Bill of Rights 
  • Criminal Justice System 
  • Code of Criminal Procedure 
  • Arrest, Search and Seizure 
  • Penal Code 
  • Traffic 
  • Texas Alcohol Beverage Code 
  • Use of Force 
  • Civil Process and Liability 
  • Texas Alcohol Beverage Code

As part of Police Academy training, you will also participate in driving exercises designed to improve pursuit skills, firing range shooting drills, and search and seizure activities.

The Police Academy is licensed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE). Upon successful completion of this program of study students are eligible to take the TELEOSE examination to become a licensed peace officer in the State of Texas.

Victoria College's Police Academy also offers Law Enforcement Training courses for Texas peace officers. Training mandated by TCLEOSE, as well as other training based on regional needs, is offered by the Police Academy.
