Medical Assisting

Medical assitants perform tasks such as checking patients in, helping obtain X-rays, and handling medical files to keep offices running smoothly. 

The Medical Assisting course is an introductory course that will provide you with the basic knowledge and skills necessary to function safely and effectively in a medical office or clinic environment where certification is not required.

Curriculum incorporates class lab activities and clinical practice in a medical office/clinic setting.

  • Clerical office skills
  • General office management
  • Personnel management
  • Patient records management
  • Insurance processing
  • Basic anatomy and physiology
  • Assisting with physical exam
  • Performing minor laboratory procedures
  • Handling medical office emergencies
  • Define terms related to ICD-9 and CPT coding
  • Utilize guidelines to apply codes to selected insurance forms
  • Describe process for coding as it relates to reimbursement of medical services
