Pirates sign two former Calhoun standouts to basketball letters of intent

Calhoun Basketball Signings Former Calhoun Sandcrabs Tyrese Bellamy, left, and Kordell Etheridge signed letters of intent Wednesday to play basketball at Victoria College.

The Victoria College Pirates added two more players to their men’s basketball roster Wednesday with the signing of former Calhoun Sandcrab guards Kordell Etheridge and Tyrese Bellamy.

Etheridge was a first-team All-District 27-5A selection after the 2017-18 season. Bellamy was also a standout for the 2017-18 Sandcrabs. The two were signed after participating in a tryout.

“It’s a blessing to have an opportunity to come out and play for this program,” said the 6-foot-1 Etheridge, who attended Navarro College last year. “There are great coaches here and the team is very family oriented. I have been staying in basketball shape waiting for this opportunity.”

The 6-foot Bellamy said he looks forward to playing once again with Etheridge.

“It’s an amazing feeling,” Bellamy said. “It will be a very great experience because I’ll have someone here who I’ve played with throughout my career. It will also make the transition a little bit easier. The people here at VC are great and they’re always willing to go the extra step for you.”

The Pirates will begin competing in the National Junior College Athletic Association in the upcoming 2019-20 season.
