Museum features Western expert for lecture and ranching artifact round-up

Victoria College’s Spring 2023 John W. Stormont Lecture Series continues at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 23 with “Chasing Billy The Kid” presented by Kurt House at the Museum of the Coastal Bend.

Kurt House is a historian, Western collector, director of the Wild West History Association, and noted author of several books on Western America. His recently published book, Chasing Billy the Kid, focuses on the chase and capture of Billy the Kid in 1880. A book signing will immediately follow the lecture.

Community members are invited to participate in a Ranching Artifact Roundup with Mr. House beginning at 3 p.m. on March 23. Mr. House will meet one-on-one with local collectors to identify items used in livestock management and everyday life on the ranch, for potential inclusion in the museum’s upcoming exhibit, Where Texas Ranching Began. Space is limited. Roundup participants are encouraged to register in advance by contacting Heather Para at (361) 572-6468.

The lecture and artifact roundup are free and open to the public. This presentation is made possible in part with funding from the Anne Kouba Memorial Fund at MCB.

The Museum of the Coastal Bend is located on Victoria College’s Main Campus at 2200 E. Red River Street in Victoria. The museum is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is “pay-what-you-want.”
