VC’s Workforce & Continuing Education Department offers training for a career as a nurse aide. Nurse aides perform basic nursing care such as bathing, feeding, and grooming, under the direction of a nurse.

VC’s 8-week nurse aide training will prepare you with a level of knowledge, skills, and abilities essential to provide basic care to patients in hospitals and residents of long-term care facilities. Upon successful completion of your training, you will be eligible to take the Texas Nurse Aide Registry Exam.

Both the classroom and nursing skills laboratory components of nurse aide training are conducted on campus at VC. The clinical portion is conducted in area health care agencies.

Coursework includes:

• Introduction to health care systems
• Preparing for direct consumer care
• Activity and movement
• Hygiene
• Basic anatomy & physiology
• Measuring vital signs
• Body systems
• Care of the client in the home
• Care of clients with special needs
