Registration underway for VCs healthcare courses

Registration is underway for five Victoria College Workforce & Continuing Education courses to be held in the first quarter of this year at various locations throughout the Crossroads.

These courses include:  

  •     Medication Aide, in Victoria, offering instruction in preparation and administration of designated medications by non-licensed nursing personnel employed in licensed healthcare agencies
  •     Medical Assisting, in Victoria, Port Lavaca, Gonzales, Cuero, and Hallettsville. The course is designed to help students develop basic knowledge and skills necessary to function safely and effectively in a medical office or clinic environment where certification is not required
  •     Nurse Aide, in Victoria, Gonzales, and Port Lavaca. This course prepares students for entry-level nursing assistance and provides a level of knowledge, skills and abilities essential to provide basic care to residents of long-term care facilities. Those who complete the Nurse Aide Program will be eligible to take the Texas Nurse Aide Registry Exam to become a nurse aide.
  •     Phlebotomy, in Victoria, where students will be introduced to vacuum collection devices, syringes, capillary skin puncture, butterfly needles and blood culture, and specimen collection on adults, children and infants. The emphasis will be on infection prevention, proper patient identification, labeling of specimens, quality assurance, specimen handling, processing and accessioning. Topics include professionalism, ethics and medical terminology.
  •     Physical Therapist Aide, in Victoria, which teaches students how to provide patient care and assistance for the physical therapist or physical therapist assistant. It teaches the application of basic patient handling, functional skills, communication and selected data collection techniques. The course will include training on transfer, bed mobility, ambulation and use of assistive devices

These are noncredit courses – they do not apply toward a credit degree, credit certificate or academic transfer. However, these are Workforce & Continuing Education courses that can lead to a nationally recognized certificate or state credential.
