Texas Country Music Hall of Fame member Johnny Rodriguez kicks off the 7th Annual Charity Concert Series with a Feb. 5 performance at the Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Victoria.

The series benefits Bluebonnet Youth Ranch, the Victoria Lions Club, and the Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts.

Rodriguez has recorded six No. 1 country hits and is one of country music’s most successful male artists, with hits such as “Desperado” and “You Always Come Back to Hurting Me.”

Recording artist Gene Watson will perform as part of the series on Thursday, May 7. Watson, known as “The Singer’s Singer,” has a powerful voice and a multi-octave range that allows him to sing some of the most challenging songs with ease. His long career has notched two No. 1 songs, 23 top 10s and more than 75 charted singles. He’s most famous for “Love in the Hot Afternoon,” “Fourteen Carat Mind,” and “Farewell Party.”

The series concludes Aug. 13 with Gary P. Nunn, a familiar name in Texas music. A founding father of the progressive country movement out of Austin, Nunn is also an independent music pioneer who continues to oversee his own record label and song publishing companies, manage his own career and play most every weekend at top music venues throughout Texas and beyond. His composition “London Homesick Blues” — with its internationally known “I Wanna Go Home With the Armadillo” chorus — is a signature Texas country song that was the theme for the PBS concert TV show “Austin City Limits” for nearly three decades.

All three performances in the series will be held at the Welder Center, 214 N. Main St. in downtown Victoria.

Season packages for three shows are on sale now for $75 per person at the Welder Center Box Office and online at WelderCenter.org. Individual tickets are $30. Tickets for all performances are limited, so concert-goers are encouraged to purchase tickets early.
