VC introduces new online sign language course

Victoria College’s Workforce and Continuing Education Department is now offering a new online sign language course with ed2go.

Participants in this course will master the basics of using this graceful, expressive language to communicate with hearing-impaired people. They will learn how to fingerspell the alphabet; make signs for colors, numbers, objects, and family members; and communicate in phrases and full sentences. By the end of the course, they’ll be ready to have a conversation in sign language.

This course is part of VC’s growing inventory of more than 300 instructor-facilitated noncredit online courses. Through well-crafted lessons, expert online instruction and interaction with fellow students, participants in these courses gain valuable knowledge at their convenience. They have the flexibility to study at their own pace combined with enough structure and support to complete the course, and they can access the classroom continuously from anywhere with an Internet connection.

New sessions of each course run every month. The courses last six weeks, with two new lessons being released weekly for a total of 12. The courses are entirely Web-based with comprehensive lessons, quizzes and assignments. A dedicated professional instructor facilitates every course, pacing learners, answering questions, giving feedback and facilitating discussions.
