VC offers streamlined scholarship application process

For Victoria College students seeking scholarships, the process just got easier.

Previously, when students applied through the VC Foundation scholarship application available in their Pirate Portal, that one application was used for over 100 scholarships set up through the Foundation. In addition to the general scholarship application, students can now access online applications for a number of situation-specific scholarships through VC’s scholarship webpage:

Once there, students who meet specific criteria can apply for scholarships such as Workforce and Continuing Education, VISD Dual Credit, Gonzales Center, Calhoun County Center, Victoria College Transfer Student, and “What’s Your Story?” scholarships.

The new streamlined scholarship process helps students avoid having to print applications from different webpages or come to campus to obtain a paper form. Now, once a student applies online, the scholarship application is sent directly to the appropriate approving authority. For example, a Calhoun County Center scholarship application would be received by the Calhoun County Center manager and the respective scholarship committees would review it.

Amy Mundy, VC Foundation executive director, encouraged students to go online and research these special scholarship opportunities to find the right one for him or her. Each application has a flyer that goes into detail about the scholarship.

She said the scholarship application process was also opened earlier this year to give students more time to apply.

“In the past, our scholarship applications did not open until after January,” Mundy said. “We know that January through March is a busy time for students. Opening the applications in November gives students the option to use some of the down time they have over the holidays to research and apply for scholarships.”

While the VC Foundation awards scholarships from private funding, Mundy suggested that students should first check with VC’s Financial Aid Office to see if they are eligible for state or federal funding.

The VC Foundation regularly awards more than $400,000 in scholarships.
