VC/UHV Library receives former legislator's records

Former state Rep. Tim Von Dohlen recently donated to the Victoria College/University of Houston-Victoria Library copies of the more than 187 bills and resolutions which he carried and passed during his tenure in the Texas Legislature. The bills and resolutions are organized session by session.

Von Dohlen, who served in the Texas House from 1971-83 and 1991-93, represented his home county of Goliad as well as Caldwell, DeWitt, Gonzales, Jackson, Karnes, Lavaca and Refugio counties.

“During most of that time, Joe Wyatt was the representative from Victoria, and we had an opportunity to work together on a number of those bills and resolutions, in particular those things that related to Victoria College and the University of Houston-Victoria,” Von Dohlen said. “We tried to do things that benefited the Golden Crescent region and the counties we served.”

Victoria College officials expressed appreciation for the document donation.

“We are pleased to receive these bound volumes to add to former state Rep. Tim Von Dohlen’s papers, which are now at the VC/UHV Library,” said Dr. Tom Butler, VC president. “During his 14 years in the Texas House of Representatives, Von Dohlen touched many peoples’ lives across Texas.”

Von Dohlen said he hoped that his papers will be studied and reviewed by future generations and will “inspire some individuals to serve our great state in elective office.”
