Victoria College’s Emerging Technology Complex is on time and on budget, according to VC President Dr. Tom Butler.

Speaking to the Victoria Chamber of Commerce during its September meeting, he shared an update on the complex currently under construction on Lone Tree Road. “It is a real jewel. We’re very proud of it. The project is on time and on budget,” Butler said.

The complex’s Industrial Training Center includes six high bay training facilities with plenty of room for equipment and six associated classrooms on the second floor overlooking each of the high bays. Machining, industrial maintenance mechanic, and oil and gas technology are some of the new degree programs to be offered there, in addition to warehousing, safety training and training for employees of the Caterpillar North American Hydraulic Excavator facility.

Butler said the Industrial Training Center will be finished in a few weeks and ready for use in January. Around mid-March, the Conference & Education Center will be complete and ready for use in the summer. The structure will have ample rental space, including a large ballroom that can seat 400 people at round tables and as many as 800 people with auditorium-style seating. It will also be equipped with state-of-the-art technology including large video presentation monitors.

The building’s second floor will feature more meeting and conference rooms. Computer labs, classrooms and office spaces will be located on the third floor.

“We expect Victoria will become a destination for regional conferences; that is our goal,” he said.

Butler also reported on VC’s partnership with VISD that offers dual credit classes to high school freshmen as well as sophomores, junior and seniors. “At least 10 of the seniors will be graduating from VC with an associate degree on May 9, 2015,” Butler said. “They will then receive their high school diploma in June. This is a great program for motivated students who want to take that challenge of education.”
