Victoria College to close March 8-15 for Spring Break

With the exception of three locations, Victoria College will be closed for Spring Break March 8-15.

The VC/UHV Library will remain open from 7:45 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 7:45 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday during the break. It will be closed Saturday, March 14, open on Sunday, March 15 from 1-6 p.m., and resume regular hours of 7:45 a.m.-10 p.m. on Monday, March 16.

The Museum of the Coastal Bend will be open for regular viewing hours during Spring Break. Viewing hours are from 10 a.m-4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday March 10-14. The exhibit “Above Texas Skies,” which opened March 5, continues through Aug. 5. Visitors can see objects from the space race, the first private space launch, and a more than three-billion-year-old moon rock on loan from NASA. Admission to the museum is “pay what you want.”

In conjunction with the exhibit, the museum will host a Spring Break Space Camp for area students in grades 3-5 from 7:45 a.m.-noon March 9-13. A lecture about missing moon rocks will be presented by Joe Gutheinz, founder of the “Moon Rock Project,” at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 12. Admission to the lecture is “pay-what-you-want.”

VC staff offices at the Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts will be will be closed March 9-13, but the box office will remain open from noon-6 p.m. Monday-Friday. The Center will be open for the 2 p.m. Sunday, March 8 show of Victoria Ballet Theatre’s performance of “Cinderella.”

An art exhibit featuring the mixed media work of VC Instructor Trent Thigpen, which opened March 5, resumes March 17-27 in the art gallery in Victoria College’s Fine Arts Building. The exhibit, which is free and open to the public, will be available for viewing from noon-5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday.

Classes at VC will resume as usual on Monday, March 16.
