Vocational Nursing

The Victoria College offers a twelve-month certificate program in Vocational Nursing in Cuero, Gonzales, Hallettsville, and Victoria. The program of study is designed to enable students to acquire knowledge, skills and competencies related to enhancing the health and well being of individuals. Vocational nursing graduates are prepared to function as members of the health care team under the supervision of registered nurses and physicians in varied health care settings. Completion of the program entitles the learner to apply to write the National Licensure Exam for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). The Vocational Nursing program is fully approved by the Texas Board of Nursing.

The twelve-month Vocational Nursing Program is offered as a day program in Victoria and at extension campuses located in Cuero, Gonzales and Hallettsville.

Upon completion of the program, you will be eligible to take the state licensing exam to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse or LVN. LVNs help care for ill or injured people and perform health maintenance duties under the supervision of the registered nurse, advanced practice nurse, licensed physician, or other health care provider authorized by the state.

As an LVN you will provide basic bedside care to patients such as taking vital signs, applying dressings, helping patients with bathing and personal hygeine, administering prescribed medications and participating in health care teaching.

LVNs work in hospitals, long-term care facilities, schools, doctors’ offices, private homes, businesses, health departments and correctional facilities. According to the Texas Workforce Commission, the average starting salary for LVNs is $28,570.
