Liberty Academy’s Early College Center Class of 2019 graduates were honored at a banquet on April 8 at Victoria College’s Emerging Technology Complex.
Nineteen upcoming graduates of Liberty Academy’s Early College Center were honored on April 8 with a banquet at Victoria College’s Emerging Technology Complex.
Liberty Academy’s Early College Center partners with Victoria College to offer dual-credit courses that provide students in grades 9 through 12 an opportunity to obtain an associate degree while completing their high school studies.
The average number of college credit hours achieved to this date by the 19 graduates is 51.6. Fifteen are on track to graduate with an associate degree from Victoria College before they receive their high school diplomas. Seven of the graduates will earn both Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees.
“These students’ accomplishments would not have been able to happen if not for the dedicated administration and staff at the Liberty Academy Early College Center,” said Babette Lowe, Victoria College dean of academic support and student success. “They have done a fantastic job.”
Isabelle Valdez was named class valedictorian and Brooke Finley was announced salutatorian.
“This is not only a celebration of our hard work, but also a celebration of those who encouraged us to do so,” said Valdez, who plans to study behavior analysis at the University of North Texas. “To everyone at Victoria College, thank you so much for giving us this opportunity. One day, I want to be on the billboard that says, ‘Community college was part of my journey.’ ”
Deborah Rhodes, biology and environmental sciences instructor at Liberty Academy, was the guest speaker.
“This is such a worthy program,” Rhodes said. “I have seen it in action first hand, and it is worth it. It was a great honor teaching these seniors. I have taught these kids since they were sophomores and saw the dynamics of their friendship evolve.”
