Hayun Surl, Angelo State University
Victoria College hosted a free ceramics workshop and exhibition featuring visiting artist Hayun Surl on Thursday, Sept. 5.
Surl, the Assistant Professor of Ceramics at Angelo State University, has conducted workshops both nationwide and internationally. His work has been featured in the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) Journal and Ceramics Monthly.
During the workshop, Surl demonstrated various ceramic techniques, including wheel throwing and slab building, while sharing his process for creating unique pieces that blend Eastern and Western techniques and philosophies.
Following the workshop, participants were invited to the opening reception for Surl’s art exhibition, “Guardians, Vessels, and Landscapes,” in the VC Fine Arts Gallery.
The public is invited to view the exhibition during gallery hours on Wednesdays from 10-11 a.m. and 1-2 p.m. and Thursdays and Fridays from 12:30-3 p.m. through September 27. The gallery is located in the Fine Arts Building on VC’s Main Campus at 2200 E. Red River Street in Victoria.
