Victoria College announced plans to evolve its presence in Gonzales on Jan. 30, 2026.
Q: Why is Victoria College changing the model for the Gonzales Center? A: The new model prioritizes high-demand workforce training and flexible online learning while aiming to meet changing community needs in a shifting economic landscape.
Q: Is the Victoria College Gonzales Center closing? A: No. Victoria College is evolving its presence in Gonzales. While the instructional delivery method for academic classes is changing, VC will maintain a physical presence for workforce training, adult education, and student support services.
Q: When will these changes be implemented? Victoria College expects to implement the new model during Summer 2026.
Q: How did Victoria College include the Gonzales community in this decision? VC leadership has engaged in ongoing dialogue with local leaders and stakeholders to help shape the future of the Gonzales Center.
Q: I am a degree-seeking student taking credit courses at the Gonzales Center. How will my classes change? A: Nothing will change for your Spring 2026 classes. During Summer 2026, your classes will transition from Interactive Television (ITV) courses—which require you to be at the Gonzales Center at specific times—to flexible online instruction. This allows for “anywhere” access to your coursework.
Q: What if I don’t have a computer or reliable internet for online classes? A: To support this transition, Victoria College is launching a new laptop checkout program to ensure all students have the technology necessary to succeed in a digital learning environment.
Q: What is happening to the Vocational Nursing (VN) Program in Gonzales? A: The VN Program in Gonzales is being consolidated with the VN Program in Hallettsville beginning in Summer 2026. However, Gonzales-area students will still perform clinical rotations at healthcare facilities in Gonzales. VC is also offering specialized scholarships and travel assistance to help Gonzales students with the commute to Hallettsville.
Q: Will workforce training and adult education still be offered in Gonzales? A: Yes, VC will continue to offer the following programs in Gonzales.
- Truck Driving (Class A CDL)
- Welding, HVACR, Electrical, and Plumbing
- Nurse Aide, Medical Assisting, and Pharmacy Technician
- Adult Basic Education (GED and ESL)
Q: What financial assistance is available for Gonzales-area students? A: The Victoria College Foundation maintains a strong commitment to local students, with more than $300,000 in scholarships currently designated specifically for Gonzales-area students. For more information, visit VictoriaCollege.edu/Scholarships and click on “Gonzales Center Scholarships.”
Q: How will Victoria College financially assist Gonzales VN Program students who will be required to travel to Hallettsville to complete the program? A: VC will provide specialized scholarships and travel assistance to Gonzales students completing their studies in Hallettsville. Gonzales-based nursing students will continue to participate in clinical rotations at Gonzales healthcare facilities. Additional details will be shared with students when finalized.
Q: What will happen with the current Gonzales Center facilities? A: As VC expands online instruction, we are working closely with Gonzales city officials to adapt our physical footprint at the Gonzales Center. VC remains committed to a presence in Gonzales, and we are exploring ways to optimize the center’s facilities—which the City generously provides at no cost—to better serve our students.
Q: What staffing changes are expected at the Gonzales Center? A: As VC’s presence in Gonzales evolves, we are carefully evaluating staffing needs to ensure they align with local community and student needs. These discussions are ongoing, and we will share specific staffing updates as plans are finalized.
Q: Who can reach out to if I have additional questions or feedback? A: Please reach out to VPofInstruction@VictoriaCollege.edu with any questions or comments.
