Returning to college after nearly two decades away from school is no small feat, especially while planning a wedding and raising a baby. But for Tracy Edwards, Victoria College offered the support and sense of belonging she needed to thrive.

“I had been out of school since 2000 when I decided to come to VC,” said Edwards. “I was also planning a wedding and had a baby—all while going to school.”

Edwards enrolled at Victoria College in the summer of 2019 and graduated in 2022. What began as a decision to restart her education quickly grew into a fulfilling career with lasting relationships on campus.

Her first course at VC, taught by Rachel Walker Wilkinson, left a powerful impression.

“She left such a great impact on me that I decided to continue pursuing my education,” shared Edwards.

Soon after, Edwards joined the KEY Center, a program that offers academic and personal support to students. It became a turning point in her educational journey.

“Pam Neuman, along with the entire staff, was absolutely amazing. Without their support, I’m not sure I would have made it,” said Edwards. “VC has truly made me feel seen, supported and capable of achieving more than I ever imagined.”

In January 2020, Edwards began working as a student employee in the Allied Health & Public Service Building. She later became a lab worker in 2021 and was hired full time as an administrative assistant in 2022—a position she still holds.

“I love the people I work for,” said Edwards. “VC gave me opportunities to take on responsibilities outside my comfort zone. It helped me grow professionally and personally.”

Edwards credits the college’s welcoming atmosphere, small class sizes and committed faculty and staff as key reasons she chose VC.

“I had heard great things from others who had gone through VC,” said Edwards. “Once I stepped on campus, I knew it was the right place for me to start my journey.”

She looks back at her time at VC with pride and gratitude—not only for the education, but for the community she found.

“One thing that really stood out during my time at VC was the sense of community. Whether it was professors who genuinely cared, staff who always took the time to check in, or classmates who became friends—I always felt like I belonged,” explained Edwards. “VC didn’t just prepare me academically; it helped me grow as a person with confidence, purpose and lifelong connections.”
