La Shaundrea Harris
Many people grow up unsure of what they want to be when they "grow up." But sometimes, that uncertainty leads you exactly where you’re meant to be.
La Shaundrea Harris knows that feeling well. She always felt a calling to help others but wasn’t sure which path to take. Enrolling at Victoria College helped her discover her passion for criminal justice and psychology, and ultimately inspired her to start her own counseling practice.
“VC was foundational in my journey of figuring out what I really wanted to do,” said Harris. “My experience at VC solidified my love for helping others, which led to my pursuit of clinical counseling and the formation of my private practice, Glory to Glory Counseling, PLLC.”
Growing up in Yoakum, Harris remembers her mother commuting to take classes at Victoria College. When her family later moved to Victoria, where she graduated from Stroman High School, VC became even more accessible — and full of opportunity.
Between 2005 and 2010, Harris earned two associate degrees at VC and discovered her drive to pursue higher education.
“Speaking with my advisors and knowing I had a clear pathway to transfer to the University of Houston-Victoria made that transition seamless,” she recalled.
Harris went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a minor in psychology, followed by two master’s degrees. Today, as the proud owner of Glory to Glory Counseling PLLC, she’s fulfilling the purpose she first found at Victoria College.
Having once been unsure of what direction to take in life, Harris now encourages others to begin by taking the first step towards their future. She believes the path becomes clearer the closer we get to our purpose.
“Just go for it — and give yourself time to figure it out,” she said. “There’s so much opportunity at Victoria College, and so many people ready to help you succeed.”
