Victoria College has been awarded a $280,345 Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) to enhance hands-on learning in its Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program.

The funds will be used to purchase 23 state-of-the-art medical simulation manikins. The new equipment will allow students to practice essential clinical skills in a realistic, controlled environment.

“At VC, we are dedicated to building a skilled and educated workforce,” said Dr. Jennifer Kent, Victoria College President. “By expanding nursing education through the JET program, we’re helping more students gain the skills and training they need to enter a strong workforce and achieve lasting economic stability. Victoria College is proud to be part of this statewide initiative that supports the training of registered nurses for high-demand, high-wage careers.”

The manikins will be used to teach oxygen delivery, intramuscular drug administration, intravenous injections, interpretation of vital signs and gastrointestinal sounds, urinary catheterization, and other key nursing competencies. The models will include adult, child and infant patients to help students gain experience working with diverse populations.

The new equipment is expected to benefit at least 283 nursing students, increasing the number of students trained and skills earned by nine percent.

The JET program supports the development of career and technical education (CTE) programs that prepare students for high-demand occupations in Texas. Victoria College has received several JET grants in recent years, including $227,050 in 2024 for Process Technology Program equipment, $331,645 in 2021 for ADN Program equipment, and $269,477 in 2017 for additional Process Technology equipment.

The JET grant supports 95 percent of the total project costs with its $280,345 award. Victoria College and the VC Foundation will contribute the remaining five percent, or $14,755, to complete the project.
