Victoria College nursing student continues family legacy in healthcare

For Analysa Garza, nursing is more than a career choice. It’s a continuation of a family tradition rooted in dedication, service and education.

A 2019 graduate of Victoria West High School, Garza is pursuing her Associate Degree in Nursing at Victoria College — the same program her father, Andy Garza, completed before beginning his career as a nurse. Her mother, Ann Garza, also attended Victoria College through the Respiratory Care Program and now works as a registered respiratory therapist in Port Lavaca.

Growing up, Garza witnessed firsthand the commitment and compassion required to serve others. Her father was even named one of the top 200 nurses in Houston.

“When I told my dad I had decided to pursue nursing at VC, he was so excited for me because he knows what an amazing program it is,” said Garza. “I’m grateful for all of the family support I have. Everything stems from my parents. Both of my parents were first-generation college students, so I saw the struggle and sacrifice firsthand. They have always encouraged me and told me that no one can ever take your education from you.”

After completing the nursing program, Garza hopes to work in labor and delivery, helping families welcome their newest additions into the world.

VC’s ADN Program has a long-standing reputation for preparing graduates to serve communities across the region. It was recently ranked the number one nursing school in Texas by RegisteredNursing.org. The ranking reflects VC’s perfect 100-percent pass rate on the NCLEX over the last two years.

For Garza, the opportunity to continue her family’s educational journey at the same institution makes the experience especially meaningful.

VC invites alumni and former students to share how the college has made a positive impact in their lives at VictoriaCollege.edu/ShareYourStory.
