Victoria College’s Board of Trustees approved the college’s operating budget and set the property tax rate for the 2026-27 fiscal year following a public hearing on Monday, Aug. 17.
The operating budget is set at $36.1 million, a decrease of $1.2 million (or 3.2 percent) from the previous fiscal year.
The property tax rate is set at 18.08 cents per $100 of taxable value – a 1.3 percent decrease from the current rate. The new rate matches the college’s calculated no-new-revenue rate, which will generate approximately the same amount of property tax revenue as this year, plus the additional revenue from new properties added to the tax roll.
Based on the Victoria Central Appraisal District’s certified property tax values for 2026, a homeowner with a $100,000 home in Victoria College’s taxing district will pay $180.80 before exemptions.
VC’s operating budget is funded primarily through tuition and fees, property taxes and state appropriations.
“Operating on a lean budget is standard practice for us,” said Bland Proctor, Chair of Victoria College’s Board of Trustees. “On behalf of the Board, I commend the administration and staff for developing a cost-effective budget that maintains a no-new-revenue property tax rate and minimizes the impact on taxpayers.”
