VC Gonzales Center celebrates completion of workforce training classroom with ribbon-cutting ceremony

Gonzales Center Ribbon Cutting Dr. Jennifer Kent, VC President joined with Elizabeth Rosenblum, daughter of Bill & Mikey Ruddock, for the Gonzales Center ribbon cutting.

Victoria College celebrated the completion of the Bill Ruddock Workforce Training Classroom at VC’s Gonzales Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 27.

The new 600-square-foot classroom was constructed inside the VC Gonzales Center’s Workforce Training Building, located at 1828 St. Paul Street, allowing Victoria College to expand its course offerings in Gonzales.

“Victoria College aims to deliver high-quality programs aligned with our regional training needs, which is a key component of our strategic plan,” said Vince Oritz, VC Gonzales Center Manager. “We are excited that the addition of the Bill Ruddock Workforce Training Classroom will allow us to expand our workforce training offerings for Gonzales-area residents.”

Construction of the new classroom was funded by a grant from the Dickson-Allen Foundation and a donation by Bill Ruddock, who grew up in Gonzales, and his wife Mikey.

“We are grateful to the Dickson-Allen Foundation and the Ruddocks,” said Ortiz. “Thank you for believing and investing in Victoria College’s Gonzales Center.”

Classes are already being held in the new classroom, and it will be home to a new course beginning this fall.

“The classroom is a great addition as it will allow us to add a plumbing course to our industrial trades offerings in Gonzales,” said Dwayne Maly, VC’s Director of Continuing Education Industrial Programs. “Plumbing will be added to our fall schedule as a night class, and we will also begin offering plumbing and electrical courses to Gonzales High School students during the day.”

Other workforce training courses offered at VC’s Gonzales Center include welding, medical assisting, nurse aide, and pharmacy technician. VC also offers its Vocational Nursing Program in Gonzales as well as adult basic education, dual enrollment, and courses leading to an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science interdisciplinary degree and transfer to a university.
