Dual Credit

Dual credit allows you to enroll in college courses while you are still in high school, earning both college and high school credit for the exact same class. It is a smart way to get a jumpstart on your college education.

Tuition & Costs
FAST Program: Through the state-funded Financial Aid for Swift Transfer (FAST) Program, you can take dual credit classes for $0 (FREE) if you qualified for free or reduced-price lunch at any point in the last four years. This covers 100% of tuition, fees, and books.

If you do not qualify for FAST, you still receive a heavily discounted dual credit rate as well as access to dual credit scholarship opportunities.
Discounted Dual Credit Tuition
- In-County: Approximately $234 per course per 3-credit-hour course
- Out-of-County: Approximately $363 per course 3-credit-hour course
FREE Course Materials: Textbooks and course materials are free for all dual credit students through VC’s use of open educational resources (or OER materials).
FAQs
- Who is eligible for dual credit classes? Dual credit opportunities are open to students in all high school grade levels where Victoria College serves as an official partner. Specific offerings are determined by your high school. You must meet any high school and college prerequisites that may apply.
- When and where is dual credit offered? Dual credit courses may be offered online via Canvas, on the VC campus, or built directly into your high school student schedule. Specific offerings are determined by your high school.
- Who teaches the courses? Dual credit classes are taught by Victoria College instructors or credentialed high school teachers meeting college standards.
- How do dual credit classes differ from high school classes? You will be doing college-level work. The material is more rigorous than a standard high school class.
- How do dual credit classes differ from AP classes? With Advanced Placement (AP) classes, your college credit depends entirely on a single end-of-course exam. If you don’t pass that test, you don’t get college credit. Dual credit is based on your actual course grade. If you pass the class, you earn the college credit.
- Can I drop a dual credit class if it is too difficult? Yes, but dropping a class requires coordinating with your high school counselor and Victoria College before the official drop deadline. Dropping a class may impact your high school and/or college transcript.

How to Apply & Register
To enroll in dual credit courses at Victoria College:
1. Talk to your counselor. Speak with your high school counselor to verify your eligibility and see what courses are offered at your school.
2. Apply to VC. Submit your application online through ApplyTexas. Watch for visits from VC College Access Specialists at your high school for assistance.
3. Check deadlines. View upcoming registration dates and payment deadlines. Please note that all unpaid classes will be dropped if not paid in full or enrolled in a payment plan by the deadline.
4. Attend a Dual Credit Information Session. At least one parent or guardian must attend.
